CollaboratorsLocated in Winter Park, in Colorado's Grand County high country, this 5,800 SF new-construction residence draws on the restrained forms and quiet material palette of Scandinavian mountain design — an approach that favors simplicity, natural light, and a close connection to landscape over ornamentation.
A carefully curated minimal single-family residence sits on the banks of Vasquez Creek in Winter Park, Colorado. This project features open-plan living with an expanse of operable openings expanding to the creek. Four luxuriously appointed en-suite bedrooms connect to a large wrap-around covered deck and an at-grade plunge hot tub within the custom-designed landscape, with a path leading to a hidden fireplace on the creek bank. This residence begs the user to look out, and provides the perfect comfort in sun or snow.
The result is a new mountain home that reflects a broader shift we're seeing in Colorado high-country architecture: away from heavy, traditional mountain vernacular and toward the clean lines, natural materials, and functional simplicity of Scandinavian design. It's an approach well suited to Grand County's landscape — quiet, modern forms that let the site, the creek, and the surrounding forest remain the focus.
