A New Look for Bari Architecture

Our dear old logo has taken us a long way. It was the first attempt at putting our values into a small and compact graphic design exercise. It has worked well for over 10 years! But after so much time, it was time for a little update. Not a major update, we intentionally wanted to keep the update very subtle.

Our old logo was a 'squiggle' that indicated what 'Bari' means, shelter. The squiggle could be a home, an apartment building, a fire station, anything. Much like the word 'Bari' which can be used interchangeably for home, building, structure, etc. And we love that about our name, since ultimately all shelter should be well designed no matter what the use is.

For one, Bari has a pronunciation problem. Too often, people would call us "Barry" — as in Manilow or Bonds, take your pick. Nails on a chalkboard. So we added the accent above the A (Bāri) in hopes that a small visual cue might go a long way.

The bigger change, though, is our new mascot. She was inspired by the Bengali spelling of Bari — বারি — and her name is Bonnie. Our principal, Bonnie, is from the Bengal region of India, and that heritage shapes a lot of how we approach design: simple, elegant, and grounded in the natural world. The figure is also a quiet nod to midcentury modern architecture — think the Eames House Bird — so she carries a few meanings at once, which feels very Bari.

Same values. Fresher face. We hope you love her as much as we do.
