Modern Living Room Styling

One surprising feature in our new home is that we have a completely separate "Front room" or living room for styling. This is in addition to our less formal "Family room" where all of our old furniture is going to go. Having a completely blank room is both overwhelming but also fun as a challenge to undertake.

The Design Concept

Since the room is on the north side of the house we decided to keep all the furniture light, airy and minimal to keep the room bright. Pulling inspiration from the southwest vibe of many places in Denver, Colorado is a great starting point.

The room itself is long and skinny. To define the space we used this jute area rug to define the seating area. We are placing the bench on the short side so that it doesn't close off the furniture cluster.

Creating a design mood-board like this really helps see the big picture. While we don't do a ton of interior design, mostly architecture, I feel that the interiors are the most important part of any design so it's important to have a good understanding of interior spaces.

This space has quickly become our favorite room for early morning coffee and yoga. It's soothing and calm, and it's so nice to have a sitting room that doesn't have a TV. I'm completely hooked now to the separate living room/family room concept and can never go backward.
